Major General Engr. Md Hasan Uz Zaman
Major General Engr. Md Hasan Uz Zaman, ndu, afwc, psc, MPhil is a visionary engineer whose career represents a blend of professional engineering excellence and national service. Currently serving as the Engineer in Chief (E in C) at Army Headquarters, he plays a pivotal role in guiding national infrastructure development, military engineering modernization, and cross-sectoral coordination between civil and defense institutions. His appointment to the BAETE reflects his commitment to enhance the quality and relevance of engineering education in Bangladesh.
Major General Hasan’s academic profile is a rare combination of technical depth and strategic breadth. In the civil domain, he earned his BSc in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), followed by postgraduate degrees including Masters of Science in Civil Engineering and Masters of Philosophy from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He also completed MDS from the National University, contributing to his interdisciplinary understanding of development and infrastructure policy. He is also a respected fellow of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB).
In the military domain, he is a graduate of prestigious institutions and completed strategic-level courses including the Army Staff Course at Defense Services Command and Staff College, the Armed Forces War Course at National Defence College. He is also one of the alumni of National Defense University (NDU), China, where he earned a Masters in Military Science (Strategic Studies) and an Advanced Diploma in Defense & Strategic Studies. Additionally, he was trained in international programs such as the Comprehensive Crisis Management Course at the Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), USA, and the Joint Planning Course run by Defence Academy, UK—equipping him with multidimensional insights into operations, logistics, and engineering support in both conventional and complex environments.
As the E in C, Major General Hasan is the chief engineering authority for all construction and infrastructure-related projects executed by the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force. He oversees the planning, implementation, and quality assurance of Annual Development Programme (ADP) projects of national significance that involve security-sensitive and technically challenging scopes. He exercises technical control over 24 and 34 Engineer Construction Brigades operating across the country on mega-scale infrastructure projects, including but not limited to national highways, bridges, flyovers, flood control, embankment and river protection, river resuscitation and canal revival initiatives. Particularly, Highway N8 (Jatrabari-Mawa-Bhanga-Barisal-Patuakhali Road), Highway N301 (Purbachal 300 Feet-Madani Avenue-Sylhet Link Road), border road in remote and hilly terrains of Chattogram Hill Tracts, marine drive road, strategic fuel pipeline from Chattogram to Dhaka, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport underpass are some of the important projects which were or are being implemented under his guidance.
By dint of the appointment Major General Hasan also heads the Military Engineering Services (MES), which is a key institutional pillar in executing complex engineering works across the Armed Forces and in collaboration with national agencies. In addition to meeting the operational requirements of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, he exercises his technical expertise by contributing to national-level development projects, often in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and other public institutions.
Besides his role as E in C, Major General Hasan is also entrusted with the flagship housing project of the Bangladesh Army- Jolshiri Abashon. As Chairman, Jolshiri, he provides strategic leadership in shaping a modern, secure, and sustainable township for future generations. Under his stewardship, Jolshiri Abashon has emerged as a landmark urban development initiative, integrating smart infrastructure with national planning priorities. Moreover, Major General Hasan is the Task Force Commander of Trust Green City, Vice President of the Governing Body of Military Institute of Science & Technology (MIST), and a respected board member of Bangladesh Biman. He also leads Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation as President. Over the period of his glorious career, Major General Hasan had been the Commanding Officer of 2 Engineer Battalion, Commander of 98 Composite Brigade, Commandant of Border Guard Training Centre & College, Colonel Staff at MIST, Instructor at Engineer Center & School of Military Engineering, and Chief Engineer at Bangladesh Maritime University. Prior to assuming his current role as E in C, Major General Hasan was the Defence Attaché of Bangladesh at Kuwait. He also served in three United Nations peacekeeping missions in Angola, Sudan, and Ivory Coast, performing combat engineering and logistical planning under challenging operational conditions.

In his personal life, he is married to Dr Summyia Nazmeen, FCPS and blessed with two daughters.
