Washington Accord (WA)

The Washington Accord, originally signed among six countries in 1989, is an International Agreement among bodies responsible for accrediting undergraduate engineering degree programs. It recognizes the substantial equivalency of programs accredited by those bodies and recommends that graduates of programs accredited by any of the signatory bodies be recognized by the other bodies as having met the academic requirements for entry to the practice of engineering in the area of their jurisdiction.

The membership of Washington Accord is an international recognition of the quality of undergraduate engineering education offered by the member country and is an avenue to bring it into the world class category. It encourages and facilitates the mobility of engineering graduates and professionals at international level.

The Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Education (BAETE), the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Dhaka, Bangladesh has been a provisional signatory member of the Washington Accord since 2011. The BAETE, IEB has applied for permanent signatory member of the Washington Accord in February 2020 and presently waiting for the review visit.

Network of Accreditation Bodies for Engineering Education in Asia (NABEEA)

The Network of Accreditation Bodies for Engineering Education in Asia (NABEEA) established in 2006, is a network of respective accreditation bodies of engineering education programs in Asia. This network is expected to promote engineering education and develop mutual cooperation towards better accreditation systems in Asia.

Bangladesh represented by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Education (BAETE), the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), Dhaka, was one of the founding members of NABEEA.

Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP)

The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP) is an international non-profit professional organization founded on 6 July 1978. It was established following an exploratory meeting convened and organised by The Engineering Institute of Thailand under The King’s Patronage with the support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on 3 July 1978 in Chiang Mai.

Bangladesh is represented by IEB in The Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and the Pacific (FEIAP). It was inducted to the FEIAP in December 2009, through its 17th General Assembly in Suntec City, Singapore.
